Mission Statement

The Public Policy major does not necessarily adhere to any traditional disciplinary classification, but it can collaborate with relevant majors such as politics, international relations, and law amongst other academic fields.

  1. By providing the knowledge of theories and practices of public policy and policy studies, we aim to educate students who can identify public issues on the local, regional, national, and international levels using empirical questioning and analytical and critical thinking.
  2. We aim to cultivate responsible global citizens who have competent skills in analyzing policy issues and can comprehend the policy processes of planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Learning Goals

  1. Students will gain an understanding of basic concepts and theories in policy studies, as well as the approaches and frameworks in related academic fields.
  2. Students will develop their ability to identify policy issues on the local, regional, national, and international levels, and cultivate analyzing skills to understand and solve actual policy problems.
  3. Students will acquire broad views and understanding needed for realizing a peaceful and democratic society, as well as skills of dealing with public issues in communities, government institutions, international organizations, or NPOs.

A Politics major can be the start of a career in many fields, including academia, politics, the media and public services, both in Japan and internationally.
