Activity location
Diffendorfer Memorial Hall East Wing
Activity days
weekdays from 17:30-20:30 and on Saturdays from 13:30-15:30. Practices alternate between section rehearsal and group rehearsal.

Activities

As an acronym for Chamber Music Society, CMS continues to be the clubʼs name since its establishment in 1958. With the passage of time, the number of members increased and having grown large enough to form an orchestra, in 1991, the clubʼs name was amended to its current name, CMS Orchestra. Within the university and among its members, the organization is fondly known as Shimusu (CMS).
The main venues for CMS Orchestraʼs performances include the Spring and Autumn regular concerts, the classic concert at the ICU Festival and the Christmas Candle Service. The members practice daily to prepare for the performances.

Comment

The regular concerts allow members to experience the activities of an actual orchestra since they perform various classical programs in a large concert hall. As CMS Orchestra does not require previous experience, members who begin performing at university can also enjoy participating in the performances. Furthermore, a characteristic of CMS Orchestra is that it provides opportunities for members to interact with former members who have graduated and also with extras through joint performances.

Taizansō, Diffendorfer Memorial Hall East Wing room 309
Activity days
once a week (date and time decided based on members' availability per semester)

Activities

Our mission is to have students preserve, raise awareness, and utilize Taizansō, a tangible cultural property located in our campus.

Comment

Taizansō is the name of a collection of six buildings located in our campus. Each building is a tangible cultural property; and of great historical value in our internationally-diverse environment. The "Ichijōjiki", one of the rooms in Kōfūkyo is a study room constructed with a variety of old materials from around Japan. This beautiful structure is one of the many reasons why our members joined our group. So we ask you; why not join our cause, and preserve a cultural property? We welcome members all season, please let us know if you are interested via email or social media.

Study Tours Abroad
We have weekly discussions on themes that members are interested in. Several members are assigned to explain each theme thoroughly before a discussion, so you can join in the debate even if you're not familiar with the subject. Discussing myriad topics with members from diverse backgrounds is fun and widens your perspective. Come join us anytime! (Themes we've talked about: The accident of Fukushima Nuclear powerplant and that of Chernobyl, Comfort women, ISIS, The earthquake in Nepal, Post-war education in Germany)

Study Tours Abroad
The study tours abroad once or twice a year are our greatest event. We plan our trips by ourselves, choosing the destination, finding accommodation, and making appointments with local schools and organizations. During our stay, we share our impressions and questions. We're not there as tourists, but we learn and experience things we treasure for life. (Countries we've visited: Korea, Nepal, Czech Republic and Poland, Cambodia, etc.)

Comment

Weekly GIANTS Co. publishes The Weekly GIANTS at ICU. Since its foundation in 1976, we have been a self-supporting operation, funding our printing fees with subscription and advertisement fees, without any subsidies from the university. In 2014, we launched the news site The Weekly GIANTS ONLINE to provide information about the university effectively.

Our main activities include writing articles based on interviews and reporting for the printed The Weekly GIANTS and the website The Weekly GIANTS ONLINE. Articles are checked for typographical errors several times, so you don't need to worry if you have no experience. You are welcome if you want to brush up your writing skills or want to be a professional writer.

We also have editors, photographers, and designers who work on the layout and illustrations for printed and digital media. If you're interested in media, come see us in room 372 of the Diffendorfer Hall West Wing (new D-kan)!

You can ask us questions at contact@weeklygiants.co or through social media. Feel free to contact us!
