Non-Resident Fee

Starting with AY2016, the "Non-Resident Fee"(¥30,000/term, ¥90,000/year) is introduced, and "Leave of Absence Fee" and "Studying Abroad (Ryugaku) Fee" are eliminated. Students should pay the "Non-Resident Fee" for the term(s) when they take a leave of absence or if they ar approved to study abroad without going throught ICU's exchange program.

Dormitory fee

ICU has been actively supporting talented students with a drive to learn and has established a variety of scholarship programs to keep financial burdens from interfering with their education. Application qualifications and other conditions vary depending on the programs. The sources of ICU's scholarship money are donations from alumni and others as well as profits from the investment of university-owned funds.

Japan International Christian University Foundation (JICUF) offers scholarships for international students. JICUF is a public charity based in New York, USA to support the university and ICU students by giving grants and scholarships.

ICU Peace Bell Scholarship

Exemplary students are selected as Peace Bell Scholars at the time they matriculate, and receive one million yen annually during their four years in the College of Liberal Arts. Selection is based on recommendation and admission scores.

ICU Torch Relay High Endeavor Scholarship

This scholarship aims to financially support prospective students who has strong desire to study at ICU and takes general admissions test. The selection will be conducted before the matriculation and awardees are granted Matriculation fee and 1/3 of the annual tuition and facilities fee of the first year.

ICU Torch Relay Graduate School Scholarship for New Students

This scholarship aims to enhance student life and research, who has strong desire to enter ICU Graduate School Master's Course.
The selection will be conducted before the matriculation and awardees are granted 1/3 of annual tuition and facilities fee.

Financial support you can apply for AFTER MATRICULATION

ICU Torch Relay Scholarship for Current Students (for Japanese nationals and permanent/ long-term residents)

Students are granted up to 1/3 of the annual tuition and facilities fee based on academic performance and financial need. Second to Fourth year students of College of Liberal Arts and Second year students of Graduate School are eligible to apply.

ICU Long-term Loan (for Japanese nationals and permanent/ long-term residents)

The University stands as guarantor for students borrowing up to the amount of the annual tuition from a designated Japanese bank. Repayment starts after graduation, to be paid off within twenty years of the first loan contract. The university pays for the interest during the student's enrollment at ICU. Applications are accepted on a termly basis.

ICU Alumni Association Yuasa / Hosoki Awards

5 to 6 high-achieving students who don't have a flexible budget are selected for interest-free loans every year.

Scholarships Offered by the Japan Student Service Organization (JASSO)

Two kinds of loan programs, one at no interest and the other with interest, are available for Japanese students. Both allow students up to 20 years after graduation to repay the loan.

The Graduate School Students Research Presentation Grant

Graduate students presenting their research to an academic society are eligible for a grant of ¥30,000 per occasion. Grants may be awarded up to two times to master's students and up to three times to doctoral students during their respective normative times. To students registered beyond their respective normative times, grants may be awarded once per academic year.

Research Assistance Scholarship for Doctoral Course Students

A scholarship of up to ¥127,000 per year is granted to students attending the doctoral program to support their research. Students may apply annually up to three times during his/her residence.

Friends of ICU Scholarships

With the contribution to the Friends of ICU, being the University fundraising project, scholarship such as "Haruo Tsuru Memorial Scholarship", "Chris Wada Memorial Scholarship", "Y Scholarship for Shakaijin", "K Scholarship for Foreign Graduate Students", And "Mamoru Shimizu Scholarship in Memory of Prof. Isao Saito" are provided.

ICU Non-Japanese Student Scholarship (for foreign nationals)

Non-Japanese students who enroll at ICU for degrees can apply for this tuition reduction scholarship after matriculation. The amount of the scholarship (one third of annual tuition and facilities fee) will be determined by academic performance and financial need.

Other Scholarship

Scholarships Offered by Local Governments or Private Scholarship Foundations

Several organizations provide scholarships for Japanese and non-Japanese students. Details are announced on their Website or at Student Services Division.

Academic Awards (Friends of ICU Academic Awards)

Friends of ICU Academic Awards are found based on the contributions to each awards. As a result of the review, made by the selection committees of each award, the awards are given to the most outstanding senior theses, master theses, doctor theses of the respective academic field, or to the student with the outstanding grade. With the contribution to the Friends of ICU, being the University fundraising project, scholarship such as "Makoto Saito Academic Award in Peace Studies", "Makoto Saito Academic Award in American Studies", "Maurice and Arvilla 'Billie' Troyer Prize in Education", "Akira Takayama Prize in Economics", "Tatsuro Kunugi Academic Award in Studies of Global Governance", "Academic Award for Vietnamese Studies", "Kiyoko Cho Academic Award in Asian Studies", "Koya Azumi Award in Sociology, "Fumiko Koide Academic Award in Teaching of Japanese as a Foreign Language", "ICU Graduate Science Award", "Masa's Peacemaking Award", "ICU Undergraduate Science Award", "Rainbow Award in Gender and Sexuality Studies", and "Takakazu Kuriyama Award for International Peace & Diplomacy" are provided.
