Basic Agreement for Promoting Cooperation Concluded with Nara Institute of Science and Technology

On March 30 (Wed), ICU concluded a Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement for promoting cooperation and collaboration with the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST, Ikoma City, Nara) to promote the fostering of global human resources and held a signing ceremony on the same day.

NAIST, a graduate university offering advanced education based on state-of-the-art science and technology research, have been building a relationship with ICU since February 2011, by holding meetings between the faculty members of the two institutes, visiting each other's campuses, ICU faculty members giving lectures at NAIST, and mutual attending of lectures and open classes via the Internet.

This Basic Agreement is expected to pave the way for various educational cooperation activities including, development of curriculums incorporating lectures from the other party, internship-based student exchange and other educational cooperation, joint holding of symposiums and workshops, joint researches and development into educational activities.

On the day of the signing ceremony, NAIST President Naotake Ogasawara expressed his hopes: "Through cooperation with ICU, we will accelerate education of human resources who will address and develop solutions to various problems facing the world and the future, and establish our position as an international research and education center leading new developments in advanced science and technology research." ICU President Junko Hibiya expressed her hopes too: "I hope students who gained creative ideas underpinned by broad knowledge cultivated through our liberal arts education would further pursue cutting edge science and technology research at NAIST and become a global citizen to contribute to the development of a better society."
