Mission Statement

The Language Education major aims to achieve world peace, by achieving the aim of nurturing individuals who can build communication bridges between different languages and cultures and by realizing the importance of the peaceful coexistence of different languages and cultures. To realize this aim, the major in Language Education will develop students' pedagogical knowledge and practical expertise with respect to a specific language including one's native language, and will cultivate individuals with sufficient language skills to contribute to the improvement of language education internationally within a global perspective. The graduates of this major are expected to become professionals who can demonstrate their leadership in the world of language education not only as educators but also as researchers and designers of curriculum and teaching materials.

Learning Goals

1. Master knowledge of a specialized field:

Students will gain deep insights regarding axioms of language education in general, such as theories of language acquisition, language learning, methodology, linguistics, and other related fields of language education, while also gaining linguistic knowledge about a specific language.

2. Cultivate abilities to practice and act:

Students will be able to take action to contribute to society by applying knowledge and technologies they have learned through social and pedagogical recognition and will be able to apply them in educational practices in a specific language.

3. Nurture critical thinking:

Students will be able to critically evaluate the references and findings of their research field through their own language education and academic exploration.

4. Improve ability and skills of self-expression:

Students will be able to clearly and effectively express their ideas and knowledge developed through classes and research, both orally and in written practice.Moreover, they will possess high-level language skills to engage in language education as experts.

5. Learn research techniques and strive for originality:

Students will master techniques of analysis, investigation, and experimentation in language education and in related fields, so that they will be able to take part in original academic research activities.
