E.U. Ambassador H.E. Hans Dietmar Schweisgut Lectures at ICU


Ambassador Hans Dietmar Schweisgut for the Delegation of the European Union to Japan spoke at ICU as part of continuing lectures connected to Professor Takako Ueta’s course on “Politics and International Relations in Europe.” Nearly one hundred students attended the talk, given on Thursday, 24 January 2013 at the Dialogue House’s International Conference Room.

On his topic of “The EU in the World and EU-Japan Relations,” Ambassador Schweisgut spoke about overcoming the EU financial crisis, discussions about European integration, and policy on foreign relations and security. Additionally, with regard to Japanese relations, he spoke about the free trade agreement, for which negotiations are expected to begin this spring, and expectations for cooperative frameworks, including intergovernmental cooperation.

Students listened to the ambassador with great interest. After concluding his talk, several students had questions, to which the ambassador gave careful attention in answering in detail.
