July 10, 2015

A Welcome Lunch Party of Summer Courses in Japanese (held for 6 weeks from 7/9 Mon. to 8/14 Fri.) was held on July 7 (Tue).

This program is designed for students whose native language is not Japanese, or Japanese returnees to learn Japanese language and culture. In this course, students will study Japanese intensively for 15 class periods per week (1 period 70 minutes), and also take a variety of cultural programs which lets students experienceikebana, tea ceremony, Zen meditation at Buddhist temples, kabuki, etc. Furthermore, students will improve their Japanese and deepen their understanding of Japanese culture while staying in the dorms on campus or doing homestay.

Starting from this year, undergraduate students of ICU can transferred 5 credits taken in Summer Courses in Japanese to ICU Japanese Language Programs. New measures are being taken, and 107 students (90 in 2014) from 14 different countries are participating in this course.

"I became interested in Japanese culture before I realized it. This is my first stay in Japan, and I want to experience many things by participating in a variety of Cultural Programs." "After finishing summer course, I plan to study for another semester at ICU. I have been studying Japanese by myself these past 3 years, but I want to further improve my Japanese by working hard during the 6 weeks of summer course and the additional semester." "I wanted to study in the diverse environment of ICU, and participated in this course. I am looking forward to it." These enthusiastic comments were heard from the participating students.
