Ms. Mako Yoshida  (4th year student, College of Liberal Arts; major: Media, Communication and Culture) won the second prize in the 15th Annual Student Interpretation Contest 2022 hosted by the Nagoya University of Foreign Studies, held on Saturday, November 26, 2022.

In the contest, students conduct consecutive interpretation for contents spoken in both Japanese and English and compete in accuracy and expressiveness of the interpreted content. With the theme of "Towards Mutual Understanding Through Dialogue: Building a society that protects people" students from nine universities across Japan participated in the contest.

Students who study interpretation in the major of Media, Communication and Culture participate in the contest every year after much collaborative preparation and practice; it is a remarkable achievement, winning the prize this year as well following 2017 and 2019, 2020, 2021.

Comment by Ms. Yoshida, the runner-up of the contest:

It is an honor for me to be able to take part in the NUFS Student Interpretation Contest and receive the 2nd prize. Having my interpretation checked by the judges and competing against students who have been training to become an interpreter is a very unique experience, so I remember I was over the moon when Professor Tamura asked me if I wanted to be the representative of ICU.

I couldn't be thankful enough to all the people who have supported me. The classmates who helped me during the preparation, my friends who gave me cheering messages, and especially to Professor Tamura, who invited me to this contest. Even when I was nervous, I felt reassured when she told me to "have fun!" at the contest.

I would like to show my gratitude to all the staff from NUFS who made this event possible and to Professor Tamura, who supported me during the contest!
