After graduating from the German School of Tokyo Yokohama (Deutsche Schule Tokyo Yokohama), Matthias Schepers enrolled in ICU's College of Liberal Arts, Division of International Relations in September 1997. His time at ICU included studies in the Japanese Language Programs (JLP), where he honed the Japanese proficiency, he would need both on and off campus, and a study-abroad trip to the University of California San Diego in his third year. He also lived on the ICU campus, as his father was a member of the university faculty.

Following his graduation from ICU in June 2001, he went on to obtain his MBA from the NIMBAS Graduate School of Management (Netherlands). He eventually took a position at Audi on 2002, working at the company's head office in Germany, and set off on a career that would see him serve as Audi Japan's Sales Division Director and Network Development General Manager as well as President and Representative Director of Audi Japan Sales Co. He is currently the President and Representative Director of Volkswagen Group Japan and the Brand Director of Audi Japan.
