74Why is study abroad not compulsory for all students at ICU?
ICU's student body includes Japanese students returning from abroad and international students looking to study in Japan, but there are also many Japanese students who are deeply devoted to doing something here in Japan. Obliging such students to take part in a study abroad program would lead them to lose both their motivation and independence.
It is the mission of the university to provide students with study abroad programs that meet their needs and to support them as they make their decisions. However, whether or not to take part in those programs is ultimately something that the students must decide themselves. ICU believes that both the university and the students must take these mutual positions.
