Self Introduction

My special field is literary studies and gender & sexuality studies. Especially, I focus on the representations of gender and sexuality in modern / contemporary literature (mainly written in Japanese or English), and am interested in how history and national, global context are connected. Orientalism and self-orientlalism and how they are connected to gender are also of my interest. When teaching, I emphasize to read literature in the historical and cultural context. Various readings are possible, when writer's and reader's historical and cultural background are different. Sharing your analysis with your fellow classmate are joyous experience as it brings about new wisdom. The goal is not to understand a particular literary work, but to think deeply about human beings and society.

Self Introduction

Without art, life would be dull. I study poetry, write poetry, translate theatrical plays, and collaborate with composers. Art is not lenient. Its starting point begins with the pursuit of creating the perfect line. I go to the rehearsal hall, work with the director and performers, from there, I revise the lines to create a piece which achieves a caliber beyond myself. I adore this work. I also adore literature classes. The analysis and interpretation of texts in class, the sharing of the world held within the piece, and the exchange of various opinions. Theatre, literature, and art all share beauty and depth. I want to create a space for dialogue with and among students about this depth. All while smiling from ear to ear.

Asian Art (Buddhist painting of the medieval period of Japan, including suijakuga)(Japanese art, Asian art, Japanese medieval-period painting, Buddhist painting, suijakuga)

Self Introduction

My research field is Buddhist painting of the medieval period of Japan, In a recent decade particularly, I have conducted a research on suijaykuga. Suijyakuga are unique religious paintings created in Japan based on a syncretic concept of Buddhism originated in India, and Japanese traditional Shintō belief. Pleasure of studying art is a whole process, I believe, which starts from a moment of having a personal aesthetic experience of "looking" at artwork, then going on with steady effort of "confirming and criticizing" predecessors' words, to reach the stage of "enjoying" own presentation based on then study results. I intend to provide chances to encounter various types of works, fostering each student's fresh idea and supporting their substantial study.

Self Introduction

I have been interested in how I ought to arrive at the "proper" way of evaluating qualitative or quantitative data generated by an event so that I can trace back to the essence of that event that caused them. Data/Statistical science can handle these issues wonderfully. However, many individuals' aggregated choice behaviors trigger those events and, beneath those behaviors, there lies a structure caused by psychological or economic motivations, or a combination thereof. My mission as a scientist is to formulate the structure as a "refutable" premise and tease out from the data what we can safely say about the premise. To achieve this goal, I put a significant effort into enlightening myself in areas other than data/statistical science, such as microeconomics and psychology.

My specialty is management accounting. My main research interest is in understanding the function of management accounting systems in supporting organizational behavior. Accounting is often thought of as a technical area that deals with a series of numbers. A little patience is required while learning the essential grammar of accounting, namely bookkeeping and cost accounting. As you build up this learning, there will come a time when you will be able to understand the human and organizational activities behind the numbers and feel a sense of visibility. Accounting is a field where accumulation is critical. I want you to know the pleasure of reading the bloody story behind the numbers without being misled by superficial figures.

Why do states fight wars? Why do nations and other groups are engaged in violent conflicts? Why do they find it so difficult to get out of the conflict and tension that they know harm them as well as others? I ask these questions in the context of international relations of the Asia Pacific although I cannot claim I have answers to any. These questions in fact raise more questions. What are the ways in which states terminate their conflict and reconcile with their former adversaries? Can nations and subnational groups interact with one another in a way that contributes to the truth, justice, and reconciliation in their relations? I am inspired by these questions to explore IR theories, to bear witness to the world, and, alas, to ask more questions.

The book shows the intricate ways in which spiritual meanings are intertwined with material and symbolic incentives to make the priesthood an attractive alternative for young Catholics.

As UN announced SDGs, human activities impact everywhere on the earth. I believe now is the time to think about how we can cycle the materials efficiently to sustain our environment. We use resources, we create goods, we use goods, and we throw away the goods. We need to be creative to utilize waste as a resource to make a cycle. We have borderlines in our course subjects, but there are no borderlines in the field. I encourage my students to think widely and seek the underlying mechanism for phenomena.

Self Introduction

My research field is geometry. How many lines simultaneously intersect with the given four lines in the space? The answer is that there are infinitely many or exactly TWO. The first comprehensive study of such enumerative questions in geometry was due to a German mathematician, Hermann Schubert, in the late 19th century. While he developed a novel counting method, the process of rigorously theorizing his principle lead the whole community of mathematicians of the 20th century to embrace a major development. This is considered as one of the reasons why the concept of "homology" in modern mathematics has fully developed. Homology is a framework that captures the characteristics of holes and twists in shapes.

Self Introduction

My Research Field in Mathematics is Algebraic Geometry. It has been applied to Number Theory, Theoretical Physics, etc. New problems were also raised in turn. For example, Riemann surfaces appear as worldsheet of strings and algebraic varieties as compactifying objects in Superstring Theory. A geometric analog of number theory arises as an important research theme from the former. Recently Derived Algebraic Geometry, which incorporates homotopy theory in topology, has been completed and applied to several problems. I try now to apply factorization algebras to Field Theory for the description of partition functions. For senior theses, I try to find the theme which suits the student's interest most. I also pick up recent topics such as topological data analysis in a few courses.

In my second year of middle school, I read Article I (Aims of Education) of the Basic Act on Education, which directed me towards studying education. The article states, "Education shall aim at the full development of personality". I was deeply moved by the appealing power of this phrase. Subsequently, I started to work on forming and improving my own character. However, the reality was that I was far from being perfect and I felt quite at a loss and wondered how I could get closer to this ideal. Gradually, I developed an interest in educational theory, philosophy and thought.
