ICU Founder's Day Commemorative Service

Update: June 23, 2016

A service to commemorate the founding of ICU took place on Tuesday, June 14 at the university chapel.

Led by Rev. Shoko Kitanaka, the service began with a chorus of Hymn No. 267 "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" by all those in attendance, and continued with a reading of The Gospel of Matthew chapter 6 verses 7-8.

In the sermon that followed, Professor Emeritus Masakata Kanazawa, who was a member of the first graduating class of ICU and later taught at ICU for many years, delivered a message titled "The Founding Days at ICU."

Professor Emeritus Kanazawa talked about how he decided to enter ICU as a member of the inaugural class and shared his memories about the founding days at ICU and Hachiro Yuasa the first President. He pointed out that the intimacy between faculty and students and the spirit of respecting each individual student are features of ICU that have never changed over the years.
