Obituary: Former Professor Yozo Yokota Passes Away at 78

Yozo Yokota, former professor and alumnus of International Christian University (ICU), passed away on Wednesday, June 12 at the age of 78. The University wishes to express its sincere condolences.

After graduating from ICU's Arts and Sciences (Social Sciences) in 1964, he became a instructor at the university in 1969. He then served as assistant professor and professor, becoming the head of the Division of Public Administration in 1985 and the head of the Division of International Studies in 1989.

Subsequently, he held numerous important posts including Legal Counsel to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank), the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Myanmar, Member of the UN Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, Special Adviser to the Rector of United Nations University, Chairperson of the International Labour Organization Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations, Member of the United Nations Timor-Leste Serious Crimes Investigation Team, Member of the International Independent Group of Eminent Persons (Sri Lanka), Special Advisor to the Minister of Justice, and President of the Center for Human Rights Education and Training. In spring of 2017, Yokota received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.

The funeral will be held as follows.
