ICU's New Physical Education Center Wins Wood Utilization Award

ICU's new Physical Education Center, completed in November 2018, won the Wood Utilization Award at the 22nd Wood Utilization Contest sponsored by the Japan Federation of Young Managers' Associations in Lumber Industry. The award ceremony was held on June 22 (Sat.).

The contest selects winners by taking into account cases which make use of the goodness of wood, contribute to popularizing new usages of wood, use wood in construction of buildings, have a ripple effect on lignification, realize affluent lifestyle and society through the utilization of wood, and disseminate information of wood's contribution to the global environment.

There were 173 entries this year and ICU's Physical Education Center won the Wood Utilization Award in recognition of new construction methods such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL) folded plate structure and cross laminated timber (CLT) frames.
