Obituary: Taro Shoji, Professor Emeritus, Passes Away at 94

Taro SHOJI, Professor Emeritus, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the age of 94. He served as professor at International Christian University (ICU) from 1954 to 1994. The university wishes to express its sincere condolences. 

Shoji graduated from the agriculture department of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and was appointed an assistant at ICU in 1954. He was appointed an instructor assistant professor, associate professor, and, after awarded a Ph.D. in natural sciences by Hokkaido University in 1980, became a full professor in 1981.

During these periods, Shoji exerted himself greatly to promote the development of the Division of Natural Sciences (back then) and the biology department. He also served as the Director of the Office of Admissions, Dean of Students, and a member of ICU's Campus Environment Committee and made many contributions to internationalization of ICU, improving dormitory facilities, and preservation of the campus flora.
