Presidential Statement Against Military Invasion

International Christian University (ICU) was founded, following reflection on the suffering occasioned by World War II, with a mission to nurture individuals who will seek lasting peace and build peace in the world.

As an institution gathered together in the light of this principle, we wish to place on record our resounding opposition to the military invasion of Ukraine that is currently being carried out by the Russian army.

It is reported that there have been several anti-war demonstrations within Russia as well; but exercising genuine influence under the current political system in the country cannot be easy. Nevertheless, within Russia too, there must be so many who wish for peace.

We stand in solidarity with all those who seek peace and who strive to build a peaceful world.
But what can we do?
We can pray for peace; we can raise our voices in opposition to the invasion; we can give voice to our support for those who are suffering.
That is the very least that we can do by way of protest.

Peace implies a world without war;
We demand peace;
We stand opposed to all violent attempts to overrun the sovereignty of an individual nation state by the use of military force, to destroy the lives of those who live there, to instill in them fear and anxiety, and to disregard their human rights.
