Celebrating at the Great Kenrokai Party (Second Men's Dormitory alumni association party)

Update: June 8, 2023

The Great Kenrokai Party was held on Saturday afternoon, May 13, 2023 at the university cafeteria. The Kenrokai is the alumni association for the Second Men's Dormitory which used to be located at the current Momi House and Maple House. Besides members of the Kenrokai, people connected to the university, alumni from other dormitories, as well as current students living in the dormitories also attended the gathering which was named the Great Kenrokai Party.

Attended by over 120 people, the large-scale party included OYR (One-year Regular Students), and a wide range of participants from those with an ID69 (1969 graduate) to ID27 (First year ICU student), as well as parents and children attending together.

Prior to the party, a campus tour was organized, and the participants were impressed with the new Physical Education Center, the latest Momi House and Maple House, the Troyer Memorial Arts and Sciences Hall, and the renovated Diffendorfer Memorial Hall East Wing. The party opened with a ceremony where Mr. Yohei Yagi (87), a Tokyo Olympic torchbearer, actually carried a real torch. This was followed by current dormitory students competing for the dormitory community fund. The joint Canada House-Third Women's House won the fund with their Creative Choral Competition. It is an interesting project revealing a new approach towards dormitory events. Subsequently, a commemoration was held for the recently deceased as well as a speech which gave an update of recent events. This large-scale and splendid gathering ended with the traditional "Gingira" dance of the Second Men's House.

Two or three years from now, Kenrokai plans to jointly organize a party with the Second Women's House to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the dormitory's establishment.
