Sein Fujimoto (major: Psychology), a third-year student at the ICU's College of Liberal Arts, took second place in the men's class (19-34 years of age) of the 57th All Japan Surfing Championship 2023, which took place from September 30 (Saturday) to October 6 (Friday), 2023, at Kisakihama Beach in Miyazaki Prefecture. This result has made him the best surfer in Japan on the annual ranking of the NSA Men Class for 2023 (grand championship).

Student's comment on his grand championship title:
I took second place in the all-Japan championship and became the best surfer in Japan on the annual ranking of the NSA Men Class. To my chagrin, I was second in the national competition. But I am very glad that I took the grand championship, the title I had aimed for this year. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends, and sponsors who support me.
I participated in the all-Japan championship as a representative of the Nippon Student Surfing Association (NSSA). So, at the venue, I spent time with other NSSA representatives, that is, participants from other universities. The cheering I heard from the beach was louder than in other competitions. That made me feel more like I was competing as a team although surfing is an individual sport. I experienced anew the charm of this sport.
It is going to be colder. But I will work hard for the next season.
