Call for Participants: International Summer Program in Japan 2024

In July 2024, the International Summer Program in Japan (ISPJ) will be held for the second year for Japanese language learners from abroad, as well as for ICU students majoring in (or interested in) Japan Studies. The theme of this year will be " Forest: A Study of Japan's unique culture, economy, and environment with the focus on the Mitaka Campus Forest." From July 3 to 26 (*Dormitory check-in/check-out included), 2024, we plan to accept up to 60 international students and up to about 20 ICU students.

The program will be composed of the following two components.

1. Japanese Language Module (for international participants): task-based (prior Japanese language skills required)
2. Japan Studies Module (for international participants and ICU students; ICU students will register for "Special Topics in Japan Studies (JPS203)") The thematic omnibus component focuses on various aspects of Japan, including culture, history, society, economy, art, environment etc. Students will deepen their knowledge about Japan through lectures on various themes, discussions among students, perspectives of Japan from students studying Japanese abroad, and off-campus field trips.

During the program, most students will stay in the on-campus dormitory with participants from different countries and will be able to experience cross-cultural exchange while living in Japan.

*For ICU students who wish to participate, participation procedures differ from those listed above. For more information, please refer to the information on the website and the information on the ICU portal that will be uploaded in the future.
