Learning about Drug Addiction through DARC's Initiatives
Update: February 27, 2024

Organized by ICU's Special Committee for Substance Abuse, on Friday, February 9, 2024, NPO Tokyo DARC gave a lecture to raise awareness on substance abuse at ICU's Troyer Memorial Arts and Sciences Hall.
NPO Tokyo DARC is a rehabilitation center that supports recovery from drug addiction, and Keiichiro Akimoto, a mental health social worker and certified public psychologist at NPO Tokyo DARC, shared with us a detailed account of the center's program as well as the situation regarding addiction and the recovery process.
During the question-and-answer session, students asked questions regarding the legislation on drug addiction along with the possible approaches that can be taken from a psychological perspective, and Keiichiro Akimoto carefully answered these questions based on actual experiences.
The comments from participating students suggest that the lecture was effective. Students mentioned that their time was well spent as they were able to gain first-hand information regarding drug addiction and that they also wanted to learn more about other addictions besides substance abuse.
With the aim of maintaining a drug-free campus, ICU's Special Committee for Substance Abuse was established in 2013, and besides inviting lecturers from outside the university to give talks to raise awareness, the committee also holds competitions to select works that raise awareness.
