ICU Student Wins the All Japan Surfing Championship 2024 SM Junior Men's Class

Update: October 8, 2024

Seon Fujimoto (Major: Psychology), a 4th year student, College of Liberal Arts, won the SM Junior Men's Class at the 58th All Japan Surfing Championship 2024, which was held at Kisakihama in Miyazaki Prefecture from September 23 to 29.

This tournament was held by the Nippon Surfing Association (NSA). Fujimoto has been improving his skills. He came second in the Men's Class at the 57th All Japan Surfing Championships last year and won the NSA Men's Class annual championship in 2023.

Student's comment on his win:
I was able to win the 58th All Japan Surfing Championship SM Junior Men's Class. Last year I was runner-up, which was a disappointing result, but this year I was able to win, which makes me really happy. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my family, sponsors, and friends who supported me.
This year, I had a difficult time balancing my surfing with my job hunting and senior thesis, and there were times when I couldn't devote enough time to practice. However, I was able to overcome these challenges thanks to the support of the people around me. From next year, I will be active as a corporate athlete. Balancing work and surfing is not an easy task, but I will continue to work hard towards my dream for the sake of the people who support me.
