Call for Participants: International Summer Program in Japan 2025
Update: December 10, 2024

The 3rd ICU International Summer Program in Japan (ISPJ) will be held in July 2025. In 2024, 40 international students from 30 universities in 8 countries and 25 ICU students participated, for a total of 65 participants. We are looking for Japanese language learners from around the world and ICU students who are majoring in (or are interested in) Japan studies.
The program will be composed of the following two components.
- Japanese Language Module (for international participants): task-based (prior Japanese language skills required)
- Japan Studies Module (for international participants and ICU students; ICU students will register for "Special Topics in Japan Studies (JPS203)"): The theme for 2025 is "Us and Them (ウチとソト)". We will look at the Japanese concepts of "uchi and soto" and "honne and tatemae" (real intentions and public face) from a variety of academic perspectives, including psychology/anthropology, environmental sciences, philosophy/religion, history, art, and culture, with the goal of gaining a deeper understanding of Japanese society. Students will deepen their knowledge about Japan through lectures on various themes, discussions among students, perspectives of Japan from students studying Japanese abroad, and off-campus field trips.
During the program, most students will stay in the on-campus dormitory with participants from different countries and will be able to experience cross-cultural exchange while living in Japan.
We are currently accepting applications from prospective participants of this program. For more details, please check our website. If you are interested in participating in the program, please submit your application from the link "ISPJ Application Form" by March 1, 2025. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. We look forward to receiving applications from many of you!
*For ICU students who wish to participate, participation procedures differ from those listed above. For more information, please refer to the information on the website and the information on the ICU portal that will be posted in the future.
