[Obituary] Professor Hideki Okamura Passes Away at Age 61

Professor Hideki Okamura, who served at ICU from 2003, passed away on October 28, 2025 at the age of 61. The University wishes to express its sincere condolences.

Professor Hideki Okamura joined ICU as an Assistant Professor in September 2003 and became Professor in April 2016. He taught Physics and Environmental Studies majors.

His field of specialization was laser application and optics, including the development of phase-conjugate waves, application of wavelength-tunable light sources in terahertz wave generation. He also worked on science education, a guidance system for the visually impaired using visible light communication, and environmental studies.

He made extensive contributions to education, learning support, and community engagement by serving as the Director of the Lifelong Learning Programs and the Major Advisor for Physics, as well as working as a member of the General Education Committee, Teacher Certification Program Committee, Faculty Council, Service Learning Management Committee, Center for Teaching and Learning Management Committee, and more.
