Welcome & Networking Event for New Dormitory Residents Held
—Taking the First Step into Dorm Life

Update: April 9, 2026

On Friday, April 3, 2026, Welcome and Networking Event for new dormitory residents at the university cafeteria was held on the ICU campus. The event aimed to help new residents build connections with one another and get off to a positive start in their dormitory life. Approximately 170 newly admitted dormitory students participated.

On the day of the event, about 35 senior dormitory students volunteered to support all aspects of the preparation and operation. Working closely with the Housing Office, they helped create a warm and lively atmosphere that made new residents feel welcome.

The event was led by two senior dormitory students serving as bilingual MCs in both Japanese and English, creating an energetic atmosphere from the outset. This was followed by a calmly delivered address from Prof. Kose, who had recently been appointed as Dean of Students, and the contrast in tone further softened the mood of the venue.

The next event began with an introduction of the new dormitory residents. As each new resident of each dorm group was called, they responded with energetic cheers, showcasing the unique character and spirit of each dorm.

Next came an icebreaker activity, where students formed groups based on shared traits such as hometown, favorite food, hobbies, and birth month. Smiles and laughter filled the room as participants engaged in conversations, naturally connecting with students from other dorms and quickly breaking the ice.

To conclude the event, participants took part in a mission to find someone who shared the same birthday. The first six pairs to succeed introduced themselves to the audience. For those dormitory students celebrating their birthday on the day of the event, Friday, April 3, everyone in attendance sang "Happy Birthday," and the venue was filled with warm applause and joyful cheers. Even after the event officially ended, many students remained nearby or sat together on outdoor benches, continuing their conversations.

Through this event, new dorm residents were able to build connections with their peers and seniors and take their first step into dorm life with confidence. The Housing Office will continue to support initiatives like this to help cultivate a strong sense of community and provide a welcoming environment for students.
