Conference Rethinking Peace Studies was held

From June 2 (Thurs) to 4 (Sat), a symposium titled "Rethinking Peace Studies" was held at the ICU Kiyoshi Togasaki Memorial Dialogue House, hosted by ICU and Japan ICU Foundation and co-hosted by Social Science Research Institute.

"Rethinking Peace Studies" is a three-year program that has been started from 2014, consisting of three seminars held on ICU campus, University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka and New York, respectively. During the three-day period, group discussions were held on peace and conflict as an opportunity to rethink about peace from various viewpoints and perspectives. In addition, Ashis Nandy, an Indian political psychologist and social theorist, Johan Galtung, peace researcher and founder of TRANSCEND Peace University, a global Peace, Development and Environment Network, and ICU professor by special appointment, Shin Chiba were invited as keynote speakers. The three speakers respectively spoke under the themes of "The Inner Battles of Peace Research: Some Limits and Possibilities of Nonviolence," (Dr. Nandy); "On the Art of Peace" (Dr. Galtung) and "The Crisis of Japan's Constitutional Pacifism: The Abe Administration's Belated Counter-Revolution" (Dr. Chiba).
