ICU Mascot "Hachiro"
Meet Hachiro!
Since long long ago--back when Tokyo was still called Musashinokuni--a mysterious creature named Hachiro has been watching over the Nogawa River and its local inhabitants. Hachiro is mischievous and likes to play tricks. During the cherry blossom and ginkgo seasons, Hachiro transforms to match the changing scenery of ICU. Hachiro is named after Dr. Hachiro Yuasa, the first president of ICU
In the fall of 2023, a mascot contest was held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of ICU's dedication to world peace and social development. ICU students, ICU high school students, and faculty members were invited to submit designs, and after a rigorous screening process, Mascot Creation Committee selected three finalists from the 41 initial submissions. Afterwards, the ICU community was invited to vote for their favorite design in an online poll, and the most popular design, Hachiro was selected as ICU's official mascot

How to use Hachiro
Not only the ICU mascot, but all symbols related to ICU are symbols of the University, and they are most effective when used in a unified manner. When using the mascot in print or on goods or merchandise, please observe the rules for its use so that our mascot can continue to be loved and known by many people.
The scope of use of Hachiro is defined.
Image data may only be used on media (including electronic data) displayed or distributed on the ICU campus, or used by faculty, staff, laboratories, and extracurricular activities.
Faculty and Staff
ICU faculty, staff, and research institute members do not need to apply for permission in advance when using the mascot for university-related purposes. Please review the rules on the following page prior to use.

Usage will be denied in the following cases
- When it is deemed to be detrimental to the credibility or dignity of ICU
- Use for commercial purposes such as product development (except those permitted by PRO)
- Private use
