Why do so many ICU students use the library?

The biggest reason may be that ICU students genuinely enjoy learning.

In FY2024, ICU students borrowed an average of 31.8 books per student from the library--about seven times the national average for Japanese universities. One of the main factors behind this high number is that students frequently visit the library to complete class assignments and read Course Reserve books designated for their courses.*

The library houses the ICU Archives, the Learning Accessibility Services office, and the Center for Teaching and Learning, which supports students in their studies and faculty in their teaching. It is also home to the Writing Support Desk, where trained tutors help students with their essays and reports. In addition, it offers a Group Learning Area for group work and a Study Area for individual study. The library is a place where students who love learning naturally gather.
