Why do ICU students write academic planning essays?

The process of planning and deciding for oneself what to study and how to study is known as academic planning.

Academic planning essays are part of that process. Students write these essays prior to enrolment, at the end of first year, when they choose the major in second year, when they apply for a graduation thesis advisor in third year, and prior to graduation in fourth year. They are given guidance in how to record their own thoughts in these essays at important junctures in their university life, with topics that include "self-evaluation," "future prospects," "reasons for choice of major," "graduation thesis topic," and "career path after graduation." This exercise helps students to periodically examine their own thoughts and provide essential information for the provision of appropriate advice and guidance.
