'Nature Symbiosis Site'
ICU Mitaka Campus Woodland
Spanning approximately 153 acres --an area equivalent to 13 Tokyo Domes--the ICU campus dedicates about 141 acres of non-built land to the "ICU Mitaka Campus Woodland." In October 2023, this area was officially certified under the Ministry of the Environment's "Nationally Certified Sustainably Managed Natural Sites" initiative. Home to diverse flora and fauna, including endangered species, this vast forest serves as an interdisciplinary outdoor classroom. It also stands as a vital natural asset for the local community, with neighboring farmers making active use of fallen leaves gathered from the coppice.
