As an institution founded in the aftermath of World War II (1953), ICU's mission is to nurture individuals who will contribute to the cessation of hostilities around the world. Thus, much of the educational and research pursuits that take place on campus are centered around the theme of "peace."
This workshop is jointly organized with Middlebury College--a first-tier liberal arts college in the U.S. and partner school of ICU--and in cooperation with the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, which gathers high school students from all around the world to participate in an annual "Critical Issues Forum", where students are asked to critically think about and discuss topics in nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament.
This workshop offers high school students the unique opportunity to spend 4-days in a college environment, living in a student dormitory, critically thinking about peace from many different perspectives in English.
Participants will discourse with other high school students of diverse backgrounds and--in ICU fashion--will experience the complexity of a liberal arts education by coming face to face with questions that have no definite answer. We are excited to have high school students come together with graduate students from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey to discuss the topic of "peace", and we look forward to having you.
*All classes are open to everyone, regardless of students' academic background.
