ICU LAMBS Wins the 35th Asakusa Samba Carnival S2 League

Update: September 2, 2016

ICU's student club Latin American Music & Batucada Society (LAMBS) won the S2 league of the 35th Asakusa Samba Carnival Contest (Taito-ku, Tokyo) which took place on August 27 (Sat).

Asakusa Samba Carnival is an event that has been held in Asakusa, Tokyo since 1981 in emulation of the Samba Carnival of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Each year, the event attracts as many as 500 thousand visitors (according to the organizers' announcement) who come to see the colorful and gorgeous samba parade.

The contest is held in two leagues: S1 (the senior league) and S2. Eight teams participated in the S2 league this year, and LAMBS came first among them, with outstanding scores in "dynamism" and "musical performance" among the evaluation items of the contest.

Having won this year's S2 league, LAMBS will be eligible to participate in the S1 league from next year.

Comment by general team leader, Takeshi Suzuki (second year student in the College of Liberal Arts)

The leaders who led this year's team were comprised of only second year students who had experienced Asakusa Samba Carnival only once in their first year. We had no idea how to carry things on, so everything was trial and error at the beginning. We sought support from many people including current members, OBs and OGs, and non-member ICU students who participated in the parade as voluntary dancers. It was such an inspiring and enjoyable experience to work together with so many people and even win the contest.

This victory is something we achieved together as a whole team, reminding us anew how strong the ties of LAMBS are. I am so proud of having spent the summer with my LAMBS teammates. We hope to continue this year's hard work and victory to next year, and improve our performance to an even higher level. Thank you for continued support for ICU LAMBS. We'll do our best!
