Roofed tennis courts completed, part of new PE facilities

Update: April 13, 2018

Roofed tennis courts, part of physical education facilities currently under construction, were completed on Monday, April 9, and an opening ceremony and practice matches took place.

The three new tennis courts have artificial grass surfaces mixed with sand, providing a comfortable cushion that will serve to reduce the weight burdens on the legs and waist of players. The courts will be used for tennis classes as well as by student organizations and individuals. On rainy days, they will also be utilized for PE classes. Equipped with an LED lighting system on the roof, they stay open until 8:30 p.m.

ICU President Junko Hibiya told, "I am very happy that this facility has been safely completed. I hope it will serve to make classes and student activities more fulfilling in the future," in her speech at the opening ceremony. Shin Takahashi, the Director of the Health and Physical Education Program , said, "We are hoping to make our classes smaller under the new PE curriculum introduced beginning this academic year and to make them more rewarding," expressing his expectation for the further development of the Physical Education Program.
