ICU student wins 2nd Prize at the 9th Annual All Japan Student English Presentation Contest

Update: December 22, 2020

The 9th Annual All Japan Student English Presentation Contest (hosts: Kanda Gaigo Group and The Yomiuri Shimbun) was held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Kanda University of International Studies. Ms. Kaho Miyata (4th year student, College of Liberal Arts; major: Education) won the 2nd Prize.

In the contest, the participants deliver a presentation in English combining images and video materials competing in logical thinking and persuasiveness. A record 1,077 students from 237 colleges, universities, and vocational schools around the country entered for the contest this year and five individuals and 16 students in four groups who won the preliminaries enthusiastically made presentations in front of the judges.

Comment from Ms. Miyata:

I am delighted that I won the 2nd Prize and that I was able to convey my ideas to the many people who listened to my presentation.

I would not have chosen the theme "Education in the Future," if the coronavirus pandemic did not occur. I believe that my thoughts on how we can apply new findings even in the midst of such difficult circumstances resulted in my presentation winning the prize.

At the time of joining ICU, I spoke almost no English, so I decided to participate in the contest on my own to test my ability. I am happy that my efforts over the four years were recognized.

I am going to work as a teacher after graduating ICU. I would like to continue making efforts every day so that I can face my students with a smile regardless of how difficult situations may be.
