Ms. Ayako Iwasaki (4th year student, College of Liberal Arts; major: Media, Communication and Culture) won the second prize in the 14th Annual Student Interpretation Contest 2020 hosted by the Nagoya University of Foreign Studies, held on Saturday, November 28, 2020.

In the contest, students conduct consecutive interpretation for contents spoken in both Japanese and English and compete in accuracy and expressiveness of the interpreted content. With the theme of "Living in a Post-Corona World-- Lessons from the Covid-19 Pandemic," students from nine universities across Japan participated in the contest.

Students who study interpretation in the major of Media, Communication and Culture participate in the contest every year after much collaborative preparation and practice; it is a remarkable achievement, winning the prize this year as well following 2017 and 2019.

Comment by Ms. Iwasaki, the runner-up of the contest:

I am so honored to accept this award and so grateful for everyone that has helped me to reach this achievement!
Especially to professor Tamura who has been the biggest influence in my steps to becoming an interpreter so far, and to the wonderful classmates I had in the interpreting course last Autumn who have all helped in preparing for this competition.

Due to the coronavirus, the competition was unfortunately held online this year instead of on campus in Nagoya as it usually is. However, this allowed me to participate from the comfort of my home in the United States.

Thanks again to all those at the Nagoya University of foreign studies who created this opportunity and to Professor Tamura at ICU who has given me the opportunity to participate!
