Revision of restrictions on entry for foreign nationals
Update: November 12, 2021
On 5th November, the Japanese government announced a relaxation of restrictions on the entry of international students into Japan. As a result of this announcement, as of November 8, some international students are eligible to apply for entry into Japan on the basis of "special exceptional circumstances".

The number of students allowed to enter Japan will be limited - with the order in which entry permission will be granted depending on the date of issue of the student's Certificate of Eligibility (COE). More specifically, students will be able to apply for entry permission according to the following schedule:
|COE issue date||The month you can apply|
ICU is already recognized as an accredited institution. However, the government's decision means that ICU will need to establish a management system to coordinate the arrival of all these students. After that, ICU will apply to the Ministry of Education (MEXT) for permission for their students to enter Japan (by submitting a written pledge, activity, plan, etc.). Once it has been approved, students will be in a position to apply for their student visa at their local consulate or embassy.
We appreciate that students are looking forward to entering Japan as soon as possible. Please understand that we are doing everything possible to speed up this process. However, it is likely to take several weeks to complete this process.
