Ms. Aloha Komatsu, (3rd year student, College of Liberal Arts; major: Media, Communication and Culture) won the first prize in the 15th Annual Student Interpretation Contest 2021 hosted by the Nagoya University of Foreign Studies, held on Saturday, November 27, 2021.

In the contest, students perform consecutive interpretation of the contents spoken in both Japanese and English and compete in terms of accuracy and expressiveness of the interpreted content. Students from 11 universities across Japan participated in the contest, which was based on the theme of "The Quest for Humanity's 'New Normal'".

Comment from Ms. Komatsu:

I found out about this contest when I first took an interpretation class as a first-year student. When I watched a video of the contest, I felt a strong ambition of not only participating in the contest but also winning first prize. It is such an honor to receive first prize in the contest that I have always dreamed of, and I am delighted to be able to live up to the aspiration I had as a first-year student. I would not have been able to win if it was not for Professor Tomoko Tamura, who believed in my potential and recommended me as the representative. She has also guided me in class and outside of class until the day before the contest. Additionally, I have gotten advice and support from my classmates and the class TA, Miss. Haruta, who was the 2019 winner of the contest. I want to thank all the people who have helped me prepare for the contest and allowed me to win such an outstanding award.
