Michael V.Drake, M.D., President of the University of California, has visited ICU Campus
Update: October 11, 2023

On October 2, 2023, University of California President Michael V. Drake paid a courtesy visit to ICU.
President Drake, the 21st president of the University of California, oversees UC's world-renowned university system of 10 campuses. This visit represents his first to an overseas partner university since President Drake became UC president in August 2020.
For 60 years, ICU has shared a strong partnership with the University of California Education Abroad Program. Building upon a student exchange agreement signed in 1963, the UC-ICU partnership represents the oldest and leading international educational program between the University of California and Japan. Over the last six decades, approximately 1,000 ICU students studied at a UC campus and nearly 1,300 UC students have completed coursework at ICU. The cherry tree planted commemorating the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the agreement blooms every year on McLean Avenue, which leads from the university's main gate.

After a welcome from ICU President Shoichiro Iwakiri, President Drake walked through ICU campus, visited Troyer Memorial Arts and Sciences Hall, and met with both UC-ICU exchange students and university faculty and administrative leaders who are part of the UC alumni network, including UC Berkeley alum Chair Hirotaka Takeuchi. The friendly and warm discussions with the President, Chair, faculty members and students were a reminder of the friendships and strong bonds between the two institutions over the 60 years.
