Event Held: "Reasonable Accommodation and Interactive Dialogue: Participation and Talking with Each Other"
Update: June 4, 2024

On May 24, 2024, "Reasonable Accommodation and Interactive Dialogue: Participation and Talking with Each Other" was held as a C-Week project.
This event was hosted by Learning Accessibility Services (LAS) and provided an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to learn, talk, and think together about the Act for Eliminating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities and reasonable accommodation.
The event was held in an open space on the ground floor of the Othmer Library, using UD Talk, an application that uses voice recognition to convert speech into text and display it on the screen, so that as many students, faculty, and staff as possible could participate within the limited one-hour time frame.
First, LAS staff gave a lecture, explaining basic concepts and their relevance to universal design, and confirmed the basic idea of reasonable accommodation through familiar examples such as stores and event venues. After that, there was a lively exchange of opinions on how to consider reasonable accommodation at the university, from the standpoints of both providers and recipients, based on actual experiences and other factors. A total of 22 students, faculty, and staff participated, and discussions continued even after the event, indicating a high level of interest in the topic.
