Farm Project Activities Have Began

Update: November 11, 2024

On Wednesday, October 30th, farmland cultivation was carried out as the "Farm Project," which started this year.

The Farm Project is an initiative supported by an alumnus and the Japan ICU Foundation (JICUF) to revive the farm, a distinctive educational environment from the time of the university's founding. Through the production of farm products and related experiential activities, the project aims to deepen students' learning about their specialties and social issues, while also creating opportunities for communication through collaborative work.

This time, five students participated in the farm project activity of creating a field.
After introducing themselves and sharing their favorite vegetables, the students removed roots from the soil with hoes. It was the first time for most of the students to use farm tools, but they made steady progress by using the weight of the hoes and the principle of leverage.

Students who attended the activity commented such as, "I had never interacted with nature before, but it was fun," "I was originally interested in farming but haven't gotten involved. I'm happy to finally participate," and "I realized that touching the soil is really fun."

In the future, we plan to continue farmland cultivation and area maintenance to create a farm that engages with food and farming.
