NS Forum "Low-Latency Detection of Gravitational Wave Signals" Was Held

Update: December 23, 2024

On December 19, 2024, the NS Forum was held where Shio Sakon gave an online lecture from the U.S. on "Low-Latency Detection of Gravitational Wave Signals," the latest technology in astrophysics. Sakon, an ICU 2019 graduate who majored in Physics, is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State University. ICU students, faculty, and researchers participated in the seminar from various places.

As a member of the Institute for Gravitation and the Cosmos, Sakon presented on behalf of her team about their research on filtering and analyzing data to search for gravitational waves in the universe, as well as the prospects for future observations of gravitational waves. It could be used to further investigate black holes.

The NS Forum is a series of seminars hosted by the Department of Natural Sciences to introduce the latest technology and research by researchers outside the university. Another NS Forum by ICU alumni members is scheduled for January 23, 2025.

For those who are also interested in pursuing postgraduate education abroad like Sakon, please consider applying for Study Abroad Support System offered by JASSO through ICU.
