NS Forum "Information Science in Social Implementation (Smart Cars, Smart Buildings)" was Held

On January 23, 2025, ICU alumni members Kyoko Kawagoe, Haruhisa Nakadaira, and Yasuhira Chiba gave lectures on "Information Science in Social Implementation (Smart Cars, Smart Buildings)" at the NS Forum in T-kan with Professor Keisuke Ishibashi as a moderator. The purpose of their lectures was to explain the real-world applications of information science, particularly in the areas of smart cars and smart buildings. About 25 students, faculty and staff attended the event in person.
The NS Forum is a series of seminars hosted by the Department of Natural Sciences to introduce the latest technology and research by researchers outside the university.
In the first half of the event, Kawagoe and Nakadaira, working in a consulting firm and graduates of Information Science major, first explained their roles in the consulting firm and then introduced the current trends of the automotive industry, with examples from their projects. They focused on the new vehicle architecture such as Software Defined Vehicles that are transforming the industry.
In the second half of the event, Chiba, a Ph.D. student at the University of Tokyo and the founder of ArchNex, focused on how they are using the latest approach developed in the field of information science to create an IT system for smart buildings, and envisioned a future where robotics are also integrated into the smart building system.
Overall, the speakers provided valuable insights into how information science is being applied to develop cutting-edge solutions for various industries. After the event, there was also a session where students had the opportunity to seek advice on their career paths.
