[Obituary] Professor Emeritus Toshio Yamaguchi Passes Away at Age 91

Toshio Yamaguchi, Professor Emeritus, who served at ICU from 1968 to 1999, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the age of 91. The University wishes to express its sincere condolences.
Yamaguchi was appointed to ICU as an instructor of then Division of Natural Sciences in September 1968 and became an assistant professor in 1971, associate professor in 1973, and professor in 1976. He also served as an assistant to the President in 1975 and as a Director of the Diffendorfer Memorial Hall from 1978 for over 20 years.
His academic research was in Animal Physiology, and one of the distinguished academic papers he wrote was published in the British journal Nature. Students were strongly impressed with Yamaguchi's spirit to study a scientific theme deeply. Moreover, as a director of Diffendorfer Memorial Hall, he communicated with many students and had the role as a bridge between the University and the students. Through educational work and research, he worked sincerely and without hesitation as a member of Housing Committee and Buildings and Grounds Committee for long period to contribute to the welfare of ICU.
