Evacuation Drill Conducted in Student Dormitories
Update: November 21, 2025

In the early morning of Saturday, November 8, 2025, an evacuation drill was conducted for all student dormitories at ICU. The drill aimed to provide students with practical experience in taking appropriate actions during emergencies such as earthquakes and fires, thereby ensuring their safety. At ICU, where many students reside on campus, a university-wide dormitory evacuation drill is held annually. This year, a total of 438 dormitory residents participated.
The drill focused on confirming evacuation routes and guiding residents to the designated assembly point. Upon hearing the emergency broadcast, students promptly began evacuating and gathered at the assigned location. Each dormitory and floor then reported the number of evacuees. Through this hands-on exercise, students were able to strengthen their awareness and skills for responding calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
After the drill, the Associate Dean of Students and the Director, University Secretariat addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of daily preparedness and encouraging continued cooperation and readiness for swift action in future emergencies. Following the evacuation drill, participants also received fire extinguisher training using water extinguishers and AED training under the guidance of firefighters from the Osawa Branch of the Mitaka Fire Station. The firefighters spoke about the importance of valuing human life and maintaining awareness of disaster prevention, making the session a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of safety and disaster preparedness.
