132 Sixth Graders Visit ICU! Experiencing "Learning and Life at University"

On Thursday, December 11, 2025, ICU welcomed 132 sixth graders and 5 accompanying teachers from Nishimitaka Gakuen Mitaka City Daini Elementary School to the ICU campus for a community partnership event. This event was conducted as part of the students' career education, organized with the cooperation of Instructor Yoko Kobayashi (English for Liberal Arts Program) and student staff. It was a day for the children to get a firsthand look at the real "learning" and "life" of university students.

Campus Tour (Part 1): Learning about ICU's History and Student Life

The event was held in two parts. In Part 1, the students were divided by class and went on a campus tour guided by student staff. Especially at the Hachiro Yuasa Memorial Museum, staff conducted a mini-lecture and gallery tour. They connected the children's prior lessons on topics like earthenware and geological strata with the history of ICU. In addition to seeing the facilities, student staff directly answered various questions from the children, such as "What do ICU students study and where?" and "What is a university dormitory?" They clarified the children's questions through dialogue while walking around the campus.

Talk Live (Part 2): Thinking about the "Future" through Student Experiences

In Part 2, a talk live session and Q&A session were held in the university cafeteria featuring Professor Kobayashi and four student staff members.

【 Theme: Which Path Will I Take? What is University Like? 】

The student staff members shared their reasons for choosing ICU and their favorite spots on campus. They also talked about their own campus life and experiences, such as a long-term stay in Mongolia, stating that "coming to ICU has significantly broadened the perspectives I've had, leading to very valuable experiences." They described the university as "a place where you can expand your own possibilities."

In the final Q&A session, a student staff member posed a question to the children: "Do you want to be an adult, or not?" The responses included: "I play soccer, and I want to be a professional soccer player in the future, so I want to be an adult soon." "Being an adult comes with a lot of responsibilities, and I'm worried I won't be able to handle them, so I don't want to be an adult."
