ICU Students Advance to the Second Stage of the 6th Global Student Competition "Go Green in the City 2016"
Update: June 30, 2016

ICU College of Liberal Arts 3rd year students Kotone Ishii and Reina Umezawa gave an English presentation in the 6th Global Student Competition "Go Green in the City 2016."
This competition, hosted by Schneider Electric (headquartered in France), is a global student competition in which two-member student teams with at least one female member propose a solution idea for any one of 5 real-life business case challenges presented by the competition host. Ms. Ishii and Ms. Umezawa passed the first stage examination and participated in the second stage examination held on June 10 (Fri) along with other student teams selected from East Asia.
The two gave a presentation on the development of an application that can contribute to environmental conservation. Unfortunately, they were not able to proceed to the semi-final, but they learned a lot from their experience listening to presentations by students from various countries and making an English presentation in front of people from outside of the university.
Comment by Ms. Ishii
I realized that we have a lot more to learn through the experience of competing with students from other countries of East Asia in the "Go Green in the City" competition. Students from other countries of East Asia are enthusiastic and committed to solving their country's problems through economic development. It was an inspiring experience to directly see how passionate and positive they are. I gained a lot from participating in the competition and I am grateful for having had such a valuable opportunity.
Comment by Ms. Umezawa
Although I began to think in the spring of my junior year that I should become more active, I was not able to start anything special. It was then that I heard about the "Go Green in the City" competition and decided to take part. It was exciting to think that we would express our thoughts outside of the university, in English, and to people we have never met before. I was overwhelmed and moved by the presentations given by the other teams, how well thought-out they were to communicate information in a clear and comprehensible way within a given timeframe of 15 minutes.
I hope that many ICU students take the challenge of participating in this competition because it gives you an opportunity to compete with students of similar ages not only from Japan but from overseas as well. We shouldn't refrain from challenging things we are interested in. I won't, and I will continue to work hard!
