ICU Official Social Media Account
ICU has established the Guideline for Use of Social Media, which ICU constituents such as students, faculty, and staff should follow when using social media.
ICU's official social media accounts adhere to this guideline.
Guideline for Use of Social Media
This Social Media Guideline, based on the IT Policy and Transmission of Information Guideline, stipulates principles students, faculty and staff in the ICU community should follow when publishing information on the social media sites.
Definition of Social Media
Social media refers to Internet-based services by which individuals submit, or share information. Popular networks include LINE, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Bulletin Board System (BBS), and blogs. They include sites with unlimited access for product reviews and comments.
Objective
Communicating on social media platforms through the Internet has become embedded in our daily lives. Furthermore, fake news and false rumors are also spread through social media. It is a convenient means for rapid, easy transmission of information, but unlimited access can cause unanticipated problems for submitters as well as
their friends and organizations they are affiliated with. Caution should be taken in using these platforms.
We listed codes of behavior and actions to prevent problems that can result from misuse of social media.
(1) Awareness and responsibility
When using social media, please identify the organizing body and organizational policies, and please be aware that you are a member of the ICU community. Anything you submit can potentially harm the reputation and management of ICU. Be responsible for what you say. The Internet never forgets: a case which you posted in the past will be almost impossible to delete. Anonymous postings can be traced back to a specific author.
Officially recognized university clubs or groups should also abide by this guideline when using social media. In operating the site, decide on the person responsible for management and notify the Student Affairs Group.
(2) Compliance with laws and regulations
When submitting messages on social media, you should comply with Japanese laws as well as the regulations in the country you are residing. You should also comply with the University Rules and Regulations.
(3) Respect for copyright and trademark, as well as a person's reputation and portrait rights
When posting messages using social media, do not violate others' rights by using copyrighted material without consent or damage one's reputation by defamation. Please note that uploading images and text on the Web, including anything on the University's
Official Website, can infringe copyright unless it satisfies the conditions stipulated in Copyright Laws, etc.
Furthermore, when posting images, videos, or writings where individuals can be identified, please obtain prior permission from the relevant individual, organization, or company, and pay careful attention to basic human rights, image rights, privacy rights, and copyright.
(4) Respect for others
On social media sites, diverse opinion may exist based on different ways of thinking and culture. We should respect each other and refrain from attacking or creating trouble for others.
Videos and photos can go viral on the Web even if the original
submitter did not intend for that to happen. This can lead to invasion of privacy. Please be careful.
(5) Confidentiality and confidential information
Do not publicize confidential information you acquire while working part-time or as interns on and off campus. Act responsibly with the information you are entrusted with.
(6) Post correct information
Always be sure to post correct information. Refrain from causing trouble for others by publishing inaccurate unconfirmed information. If something you posted wasn't true, be the first to correct the error, respond to the situation with sincerity, and make the effort to be understood correctly.
(7) Be sincere
When you hurt someone unintentionally or invite misunderstanding through use of social media, be sure to deal with the situation sincerely. Furthermore, when using social media, please be fully aware that in certain cases, usage of social media can lead to diminishing the university's honor and trust.
(8)Response to impersonation and hacking
If any unknown information is posted on your official account, please confirm the content of the information and promptly contact the Student Services Division. At the same time, please save the image and leave a record before deleting the information in question and also changing the password of the account in question.
Moreover, if the computer device you are posting on is installed with a third-party application which has a link to social media, please disable the link function that has been set.
In order to minimize damages resulting from impersonation and hacking, please check the account which you manage on a daily basis.
(9)Prohibited acts
Always be sensible and responsible. You should NOT:
- Use your voice to insult others or discriminate against them, or publish comments that have the potential to trigger discrimination or defamation
- Post information related to or potentially related to illegal acts.
- Post information that includes violent or obscene content
- Post information about fraud and other illegal commercial activity
- Use photos, images and logos from the University's Official Website, or websites of other universities and corporations, without their consent.
- Post content against public order and morality
