For applicants from countries that offer a national examination
certificate leading to university entrance:

Submit an official, certified copy of the certificate, including the examination results.

  • In case that the country in which your high school curriculum is based is not listed in the following table, refer to the section of "Other Countries." If it is not listed there either, follow the instructions provided below or contact Admissions Center in advance with an "eligibility_check_form (.xls)" attached to your query.

Must submit examination or test results from one of the following options: SAT (with Essay), ACT Plus Writing, or General Certificate of Education in Advanced Level (GCE A Level).

    *NOTE:
  • If your school curriculum is based on the IB Full Diploma, Abitur, French Baccalauréat, GCE Advanced Level, etc. and is accredited by corresponding accrediting institutions only for these respective curricula, your acceptance may be cancelled if you are not able to successfully obtain these certificates/diploma.
  • Applicants who are home-schooled or attending an unaccredited schools (applicants GED required) should refer to "Policy for Unaccredited Schools and Homeschools" and contact the Admissions Center well in advance as we may require additional documents such as official test scores of SAT Subject Tests or ask for alternative materials depending on your school curriculum and educational background.
    Important notice regarding student visa (for non-Japanese applicants):
  • Those who apply with an Educational Certification (excluding IB / HKDSE / GCE A level), for which results will not be available by the application dead line, please refer to the INFORMATION BROCHURE of the year you intend to apply as there is a possibility of delay in Certificate of Eligibility (COE) application procedure, which may affect the curriculum schedule after enrollment.
USA: SAT (with Essay) or ACT Plus Writing
  • Applicants educated in an American-based educational system are to submit a score report of one of the following tests:
    - SAT* (Evidenced-Based Reading & Writing, Mathematics) with the Essay option (https://www.collegeboard.org)
    - ACT Plus Writing (https://www.act.org)
    *Previous SAT (Critical Reading, Mathematics, Writing) scores are also acceptable for the 2021 Admissions.
    • Important notes for both tests:
    • Upload a PDF version of your test score report.
    • Applicants are also required to request the testing institution to send the score report("College Report") directly to ICU. Please keep a copy of your order invoice with the application documents as proof of the score arrangement.
    • Contact the testing institution, not ICU, for any test-related issues, including test score reporting.
    • SAT / ACT scores must be taken not more than five years before the time of application.
    • Make sure to arrange score report delivery no later than one month before the submission deadline.
  • Please follow the instructions below for the test(s) you take:
    SAT (with Essay)
    • When requesting your scores, indicate our institution code number: 0860
    • With regard to the score report, we consider your highest section scores across all SAT test dates that you submit.
    ACT Plus Writing
    • When requesting your scores, indicate our institution code number: 5279
International Baccalaureate: IB Full Diploma
    For applicants who will obtain IB final grades after the application submission deadline:
  • Request that your school issue your IB predicted grades using the form that can be downloaded from "Application Brochure and Forms" and submit it with other application documents.
  • Decisions will be made based on your predicted IB grades and other application documents. However, acceptance may be conditional upon receipt of the final IB results.
  • Please also request your IB coordinator or guidance counselor to have your final IB results sent to ICU electronically through the IB organization.
    For applicants who already have the IB diploma final grades:
  • Please arrange the result of your IB final grades to be sent to ICU electronically through the IB organization or have your school prepare a certified copy of your IB results.
Canada: Completion of Required Curriculum for University Entrance
  • Applicants educated in a Canadian-based educational system must complete the curriculum and/or examination that is required in order to enter a four-year university in Canada.
    British Columbia:Four Grade 12 academic courses* including English Studies 12 (or English 12 or English 12 First Peoples)
    *The subject of your native language or language spoken at home will not be counted.
    Ontario:Six Grade 12 4U/4M courses including English 4U
    Alberta:Five Grade 12 academic courses numbered 30/31 including English Language Arts 30-1.
    Prince Edward Island:Five Grade 12 academic courses (611 or 621), including English 621
    Other Provinces:For other provinces, please consult Admissions Center in advance if you are unsure about your educational certification.
      NOTE:
    • If your final results are not available at the time of application, please submit all documents by the second application submission deadline except the final results. Your admission decision will be made after the receipt of your results.
UK: GCE Advanced Level and GCSE
  • Applicants educated in a British-based educational system are to submit an official or certified copy of the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A Level) and the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), indicating passes in five subjects, ideally one from each of the subject groups: Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Languages.
  • Please note that, of the five passes, two must be at the GCE A Level.
  • Make sure to submit the following documents with your term reports / transcripts:
    1. Certified copy(ies) of GCSE certificate(s)
    2. Certified copy(ies) of GCE Advanced Subsidiary (AS) statement of results or certificate(s)
      Required only for applicants who have AS results*
    3. Certified copy of GCE A Level (A2) Grades*
        NOTE:
      • For applicants originally from non-English speaking countries, except those who have spent their junior and senior high school years - approximately six years - in a British school system, it is recommended to take English Language in the Language subject group.
      • Foreign Language Subjects of your native language(s) or languages spoken at home are not accepted to fulfill the above requirement.
    • For applicants who will obtain GCE A Level final grades after the application submission deadline:
    • Request that your school issue your GCE A Level predicted grades and submit it with other application documents.
    • Decisions will be made based on your predicted GCE A Level grades and other application documents.
    • Acceptance will be conditional and confirmed when final GCE A Level results become available.
    • Please also request that your school or the testing institution have your final GCE A Level results sent to ICU.
      For applicants who already have the GCE A Level final grades:
    • Please arrange the result of your GCE A Level final grades from the testing institution or have your school prepare a certified copy in addition to the documents above.
France: French Baccalauréat
  • Applicants educated in a French-based educational system are to submit an official or certified copy of the Baccalauréat examination certificate.
      For September Entry:
    • Please submit us all documents, except the final result of Baccalauréat, by March 11, 2021. Your admission decision will be made after the receipt of your Baccalauréat results in June or July.
Germany: Abitur
  • Applicants educated in a German-based educational system are to submit an official or certified copy of the Abitur certificate.
      For September Entry:
    • Please submit us all documents, except the final result of Abitur, by March 11, 2021. Your admission decision will be made after the receipt of your Abitur results in June.
Australia
  • Applicants educated in an Australian-based educational system are to submit an official, certified copy of examination results and certificates that qualify you to enter Australian universities.
  • Please note that the names of each certificate listed below may be different depending on your graduation year:

  • Applicants educated in a New Zealand-based educational system are to submit an official or certified copy of the Record of Achievement and School Results Summary showing NCEA Level 3 and University Entrance.
      For April Entry:
    • Please submit us all documents, except the final results of these examinations, by November 4, 2020. Your admission decision will be made after the receipt of your results in December.
Japan: SAT (with Essay), ACT Plus Writing or GCE Advanced Level
  • Applicants educated in a Japanese-based educational system are to submit an official score report of SAT (with Essay), ACT Plus Writing or GCE Advanced Level.
Korea: College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT)
  • Applicants educated in a Korean-based educational system are to submit an official report of CSAT results issued in English.
      For April Entry:
    • Please submit us all documents, except the final results of CSAT, by November 4, 2020. Your admission decision will be made after the receipt of your results in December.
Hong Kong: Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE)
  • 4 Core Subjects and 2 Elective Subjects (in Category A) are required:
    - Those who have not taken Chinese Language will be required to submit 3 Elective Subjects.
    - Mathematics Extended Part Module 1 and 2 can be used to meet the elective requirement.
    - If taking both M1 and M2, they are counted as one subject only.
    • For applicants who will obtain the final results of HKDSE after the application submission deadline:
    • Request that your school issue your HKDSE predicted grades and send it with other application documents.
    • Decisions will be made based on your predicted grades of HKDSE and other application documents.
    • However, acceptance will be conditional and confirmed when final HKDSE results become available.
    • Please also request that your school or the testing institution have your final HKDSE results sent to ICU.
      For applicants who already have the final results of HKDSE:
    • Please arrange the result of your HKDSE from the testing institution or have your school prepare a certified copy.
Indonesia: Ijazah SMA, DAFTAR NILAI & Sertifikat Hasil Ujian Nasional
  • Applicants educated in an Indonesian-based educational system are to submit an official report of Ijazah SMA (High School Diploma) including DAFTAR NILAI (List of Scores) and Sertifikat Hasil Ujian Nasional (Certificate of National Examination Result).
      For September Entry:
    • Please submit us all documents, except these certificates, by March 11, 2021. Your admission decision will be made the receipt of your results.
Singapore: Singapore/Cambridge GCE O-level & A-level
  • Applicants educated in a Singapore-based educational system are to submit an official report of Singapore/Cambridge GCE O-level & A-level.
Other Countries
  • The following educational certifications may be considered as the minimum required for consideration for undergraduate admissions.
  • In some cases, applicants may be asked to submit additional examination results. Therefore, please make sure to consult Admissions Center before applying.
